If you’re wondering which ab workouts are most effective, you’re not alone, as this is a question that many people are trying to find the answer to. The simple truth isn’t there isn’t any one exercise that will work well for everything. The real secret is to regularly workout your whole body using a variety of different exercises. However, there are a few different workouts that will really target your abs and, if this is an area that you want to improve, you need to make sure to include them in what you do. We’ll be looking at a few of these below.

Perhaps one of the best ab workouts a person can do, particularly for the lower abs, is reverse crunches. Most people already do the regular crunches and, while they are good, if they are all you do, they won’t give you the kind of look that you want. Reverse crunches are helpful for any routine that you already do. With a normal crunch, your knees are on the floor but with the reverse crunch you hold them off of the ground in the bent position while you hold your hands behind your head. The goal is to get your knees and head as close together as you can mange without having to strain. You should feel the pressure in the abdominal region. The Captain’s Chair exercise is a good idea for people who want an ab workout that is super effective. This requires the use of some equipment that you can find in most gyms or that you can purchase to use in your house. Hold on to the chair’s handles, straighten your back against the support and, while bending your knees, bring them up toward your chest. Begin with the basic lift even though there are lots of other options that involve raising your knees at different angles. Many fitness experts consider this to be one of the top exercises for your abs that you can do.

You probably think that the best exercises to do to tone your abs and burn fat in your ab region are regionally specific exercises, but working your cardio system is at least as important. Some cardiovascular exercises that are good include jogging, speed walking and using exercise machines like ellipticals, treadmills and bikes. Just a half an hour of cardio workout and some targeted moves for the ab region will do quite a lot to help raise your overall fitness as well as make it easier for you to define your abdominal muscles since you will be burning the fat in your midsection.

Ab workouts can take on lots of different forms, though all of the exercises technically target the same groups of muscles.

Aside from doing ab exercises, however, make sure you also do a good amount of cardio and resistance training for your whole body. If you are diligent and patient, you can get a great deal of help by using the ab workouts outlined in this article. Try to make sure each workout is good and you’ll get real improvement over time.
